Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home. They believe that home is everything. However, the housing emergency has pushed more families into poverty and homelessness. Shockingly, 151,630 children are currently homeless in temporary accommodation.
Shelter has a network of around 80 charity stores across the UK including boutique shops, community shops, furniture shops, and bookshops, plus a curated online store. But they rely on stock donations of preloved items to fill the shelves, from second-hand clothes to bric-a-brac, CDs, DVDs, and books. People in the UK own on average 188 items of clothing and 26% of them have not been worn in the last year. Through cultivating a sustainable fashion community of shoppers and donors, Shelter is also promoting the importance of supporting the circular economy.
Thanks to supporters donating to and shopping at Shelter shops, they can continue providing free and expert help to anyone facing homelessness, as well as helping to campaign for lasting change.
When you come to see us at the Clean & Tidy Home Show at ExCeL London in October, why not have a wardrobe clear-out and bring along some of your preloved items to donate. We’ll have donation stations throughout the event hall to collect them. Find out what you can donate here.
