The Do I Need This? film is having its UK premiere on Wednesday 14th June 7-9pm BST. It’ll be a virtual screening followed by live Q&A with filmmaker Kate Schermerhorn via Zoom and hosted by Katherine Blackler, Certified Professional Organizer at SortMySpaceLtd.
It’s a heart-warming and personal documentary of Kate’s family and their relationship with their belongings, interspliced with input from minimalism and environmental experts such as Randy Frost, Bea Johnson, Finn Murphy & Juliet Schor.
While the film is motivated by the filmmaker’s concern for the dire environmental challenges facing our planet, the focus is not on human consumers’ impact on nature, but instead on our human nature to consume. Viewers will never again have the luxury of buying something new with out stopping to ask themselves, “do I really need this?”
