Between Green is changing the world one box at a time with themed letterbox friendly parcels packed full with eco-friendly products made by small UK based businesses. We had a chat with Jodie from Between Green to find out more.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Jodie. I live in greater Manchester with my family and our German Shepherd Pippa. I am the Founder of Between Green, an eco-friendly products business that specializes in subscription boxes.
Why did you start Between Green?
In 2016 I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I started medication and counselling as prescribed but I wanted to be more proactive in getting better. I turned to “Dr.Google” and came across the concept of slow living; accomplishing everything, but at the right time and having clear priorities. A massive part of slow living is living sustainably and mindfully, but it was the living sustainably.Making sustainable changes made me feel amazing so I wanted to share my experience with others and took to social media. After a great response, I then decided to turn my new found passion into a business.
What does Between Green mean?
We all know we should be eco-friendly and kinder to the planet but many don't know where to start so are stuck in between. With my knowledge and recommendations, my subscribers can jump straight in.
Why does incremental change resonate with you?
When you want to lose weight, you throw all the Oreos in the bin and you sign up to the gym but making those big changes isn’t always sustainable. If you’re anything like me,you go on a diet and it lasts three days! We believe it's the small, ongoing changes that make a massive difference. Many of us have really busy lives and need tofind ways to make positive change fit in with our lifestyle so that we are not overwhelmed.
How does a Between Green subscription help people to be more sustainable more sustainably?
The idea of the subscription boxes is that you are making a green change one month at a time. Every box has a completely different and considered theme – a complete kit for one area of change such as stationary, laundry or gardening, items that everybody can and will use, no duplicate products. We have received great feedback from our customers on this approach; we started in January of this year and 90% of my customers have been with me since day one.
How do you decide which products to include each month?
The majority of the products that go into our subscription boxes are made by small businesses in the UK which is really important to me and I love the fact that I am supporting someone who is as conscious about the environment as I am. I think it that this really resonates with my subscribers, because I can stand in front of them and I can tell them who made what and a little bit about their story. They feelgood about supporting five small businesses in just one purchase.
How can we buy the products if we like them?
You can subscribe at www.between-green.com where I also have a small offering of eco-friendly products online so if anyone wants to top up on the consumables, they can.
What has been your favourite sustainable swap so far?
My silicon straw! Especially because I have sensitive teeth. It goes in a tiny little tin – so handy! A young girl once asked me about my lovely coloured straw and when I put into context that she could swap her McDonald's straws for something so fun and she suggested making this green change to her mum, it felt great!
What is in the future for Between Green?
I am a one-woman band although my two teenage children get roped into packing the boxes with me! Like any small business we want to grow and have some more space(other than my kitchen table) and perhaps even a shop one day.
What can we expect from you at the Clean & Tidy Home Show?
I will be bringing different subscription boxes along for people to purchase and see examples for themselves. I can’t wait to talk to people face to face about my experiences with the different products. Hearing that people want to make sustainable changes and supporting them in their journey to a greener future is the reason why I do what I do.
