Tell us a bit about yourself....
Hey! I'm Kaya a 30 something year old from Bedfordshire living in Hertfordshire.
I'm a Mum of 2 beautiful girls. The 3yr old is wild and my personality double, so it's like cosmic karma as apparently I was a wild child too, and the baby is super chilled... for now!
My Instagram page was an escape for me in a time I was struggling with my mental health after having my first baby. I'm now almost into my third year of this journey has been wonderful. I have met some amazing people and had amazing opportunities to work with brands I love and use everyday.
My account mainly focuses on cleaning, home organisation and maintaining the home, while making sure you have time for your family and yourself.
How did you learn how to keep a home?...
From a young age I was drawn to cleaning. I would move the furniture around all the time and have deep cleans, so I've always had a love of cleaning and organising. Having kids means less time to keep on top of things and I had to adapt my methods to keep on top of everything. My house is far from spotless, but ensuring my kids are and feel loved & happy is more important than the dust bunnies under my sofa, or the pasta bake stain on my carpet. My home is lived in and I wouldn't change that for the world.
What is your favourite homemaking activity?
Definitely finding new storage solutions that help make my life easier and feel less cluttered. There's no better feeling than everything having a place.
What homemaking product couldn’t you live without?
I could not live with Citric Acid. I use it for everything. It's a wonderful eco friendly cleaning product and is a FANTASTIC cleaner and descaler. I'm always finding new ways to use it.
I couldn't just pick one... I'm also Zoflora obsessed, the variety of fragrances and the endless uses. I have more bottles if Zoflora than knickers haha!
Do you ever feel overwhelmed? How do you cope?
I feel overwhelmed some days! As soon as I wake up I'm non-stop, looking after the home and 2 kids can be hard, and anyone who says it's easy is either a superhero or they have angel children. Kids are demanding and little mess makers and snack monsters, as soon as you finish tidying for that day a child creates more mess! It's a never ending cycle. Oddly though I love having a chaotic home full of noise and laughter a
To try and keep a life and home balance I clean one room a day. It may not seem like a lot, but it's an accomplishment nonetheless. Setting little daily goals means you get more little wins, and that's better for your mental health than setting mammoth tasks and not completing them. Also cooking I try and prep as much as I can in the morning and use a slow cooker when I can, as it frees up more time to spend with my children and most importantly rest.
Which leads me to mention.... Take time for you! Set time, as you would for cleaning, to prioritise YOU and your self care. That could be a long soak in the bath and pamper session, reading your favourite book, having some tv time having a lunch with friends or simply taking a nap. Your happiness and mental health is just important as your home and family.
Why is #shinenotshame important to you?
Our homes are an extension of ourselves and reflect who we are and what we like. Your home tells a story of your life and your journey so you should never feel ashamed of it, and someone should never shame you for it. If YOU'RE not happy with something, change it, and if YOU'RE happy with it being just the way it is, then let it be. Because at the end of the day you live in your home not anyone else, so only what you think of your home matters.
What is an interesting fact about you?
I have a tattoo that's two foot long going down my side. It took 14 hours to complete and I love it. Even with my journey into motherhood stretch marks added to it, it makes it all the more special, and I wouldn't change it for the world.
