The Clean & Tidy Home Show believes there is no shame in asking for help or sharing a problem. We are committed to support our community no matter their experience or approach to homemaking.
The Clean & Tidy Home Show and its community are for all homemakers, no matter their budget, time or other constraints. You are welcome whether you clean your own home, or you employ help. Whether you have a decluttered space or need support in organising your home. Whether you know a lot about keeping your home clean and tidy or have much to learn. Whether you rent a small studio flat or own a large house.
You and your home deserve to shine.
The mission of the Shine not Shame campaign is encourage those who need it to ask for help and those who can help to offer support with no judgement or stigma. We celebrate the evolving nature of a home - if you live in it, it can’t always be perfect and that is OK!
“Those who don’t have the means to access household and personal hygiene products can be held back from fully participating and contributing to society. It can be demoralising not to be able to keep yourself and your home clean when needed. Hygiene poverty can negatively affect personal esteem and self-confidence. It can leave those of us in need feeling isolated, excluded, shamed, bullied, humiliated potentially leading to poor mental health. We stand alongside those in crisis. Our purpose is to ensure no one is held back from participating in society because of hygiene poverty.”
Lizzy Hall, Founder, The Hygiene Bank
“Hoarding behaviour is often judged by others as a symptom of untidiness. Actually, we know that people who hoard can spend more time trying to create order than the average person – with the result being that the space becomes more chaotic and overwhelming due to the distress experienced when undertaking tasks which many of us consider easy. Shame and blame often follow from both those who hoard themselves and those who want it sorted. We say well-kept includes wellbeing and that no one deserves to be treated like rubbish!
Megan Karnes, Founder/Chair, HoardingUK
"Sometimes my clients apologise for the state of their home and often feel embarrassed. I always assure them not to feel ashamed and that I’m always happy to help. I enjoy transforming people’s homes so my clients can enjoy them. I believe we should feel proud of our homes, even if sometimes we have pots from the night before or a mountain of washing. We should never be ashamed of living in our homes –it’s what they are there for!"
Soph, Super Scrimping Soph
"Many of my clients feel embarrassed to show me their homes when they reach out and ask for help, it’s my job to reassure them that it’s absolutely normal! Our homes are real, where real life happens and real life is busy and messy! There is absolutely nothing wrong in asking for help to manage them!No one should ever feel embarrassed or feel shame in any way and should definitely not let it stop them from asking for help."
Emma, Declutter with Emma
“A few years ago I made the decision to hire a cleaner after accepting that I needed help at home. What I hadn’t considered was how ashamed I would feel about the state my home was in, so I cleaned the house before the cleaner arrived! After doing this a few times, I decided there was no point in the cleaner coming and managed myself. After joining the Instagram cleaning community, I am now more aware of the struggles that we all have in keeping a home and know that should I be in a position where I need help again, I would accept it with open arms and not feel the shame.”
