The Cosy Cleaning Club with @Lauracleanaholic

Laura AKA @Lauracleanaholic talks to us about #cosycleaningclub.

Tell us about Cosy Cleaning Club.

So I love nothing more than being cosy at home. I love getting my favourite cleaning products, lighting a candle and getting my clean on really. And that's where Cosy Cleaning Club started.

And how long ago did you start it?

I started the Cleaning Club actually in lockdown because we're all spending so much more time in our homes and it was a way to bring people together, people that love cleaning and love being at home - making it feel like we were in it together although we were apart.

When do you feel at your cosiest?

Oh, I just absolutely love it in the Autumn and Winter as much as I love the sunshine in the Summer. I just love those cosy days when it's tipping it down with rain outside, it's quite dark and the nights draw in earlier very much like it is now. You just feel really safe and homely within your own four walls.

Are there many people that have joined the Cosy Cleaning Club? What's the response been like?

Oh, the response has just been overwhelming. It really has. It's so lovely that there are so many like-minded people out there that are homely as well, because I thought that I was just quite boring. I love nothing more than just being at home, being with my dogs, making nice food, making my home all nice. And it's just so lovely that there's lots of other people out there that feel the same and get so much enjoyment out of that. It's appreciating the simple things in life that and that's what Lockdown taught us, we have to treasure the simple pleasures.

Talk me through your typical cosy cleaning day. Where do you start?

Step one, get those candles lit, step two, grab your favourite cleaning products. So I would literally just get my cleaning caddy and go, right, okay, what scents am I going to use today? So for example, at this time of year, I love all the cosy Christmas scents, like the cinnamon, vanilla and pine. I'm quite passionate about fragrance, I think it is so homely, and nostalgic because all of those Christmassy scents remind me ofChristmases passed. Then step three, focus on one room at a time. I usually start with the kitchen because it’s the central hub of the house and then I'm then motivated to clean the other rooms. I've obviously got to stop and have a hot chocolate along the way! Another essential of Cosy Cleaning!

Sometimes it's also nice to put on like a podcast or something quite relaxing. Other times, I need motivational music on – something really upbeat that gets me in the mood, gets you motivated. It depends what I need at the time - Cosy Cleaning Club is about self-care for you and self-care for your home.

In your firstInstagram post, you suggested that cleaning is your therapy, tell us about that.

I don't know whether other people feel the same, I'm sure they do, but I find it so difficult to switch off. We lead such busy lives. There are always to do lists, jobs to do, things we need to focus on and actually we don't spend enough time on ourselves. Cosy Cleaning Club is about making that time for you and turning cleaning from something that was a chore into something that we can actually enjoy. I's that time for us to unwind and de-stress. And I don't know whether it's the soothing nature of scrubbing, mopping or the lovely smells, but I find it really does help me to switch off and focus on the cleaning, I forget everything else, my worries and stresses. So yes, cleaning is definitely my therapy.

Any words of advice when it comes to Cosy Cleaning?

The most important thing with Cosy Cleaning Club is go at your own pace. We put so much pressure on ourselves to have a perfect, spotless home, and that is just not reality. It would be lovely, wouldn't it, if we all lived in a show home and everything was perfect all the time, but it's just not achievable. It's an unrealistic goal to have. And with Cosy Cleaning Club, it's about not about having the perfect home or the cleanest home, it's about enjoying the journey of getting your home clean and tidy. So don't put any pressure on yourself, go at your own pace and enjoy the process.
